Figure Skating Apps

Figure skaters and coaches have a new way to enhance learning and skills—in the form of an app! When paired with formal instruction like group classes or private lessons, mobile apps are a handy tool to help skaters track progress and gain additional on-ice (and off-ice) training tips. Apps are a great way to complement formal ice skating training, become educated and have some fun!  Here are 3 figure skate apps to help enrich your training.

  1. U.S. Figure Skating’s Skate Coach App Series is a 12 part collection of apps. The series leads skaters, parents and instructors through the 12 badge curriculums that make up the Basic Skills Program, from Synchro Skating and Theater on Ice to Speed Skating and Special Olympics. It includes a variety of videos, diagrams and written instructions to enhance and build upon your on-ice learning. This app series is available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
  2. Another great app is SK8 Sports’ Figure Skating app. This iPhone and iPod Touch app has video motion analysis, educational resources, games and more. And you can keep your training schedule organized by using the app’s planning calendar. It also includes tips on how to prepare for ice skate competitions. Be sure to check out the trivia and quizzes to test yourself on skating vocabulary!
  3. To find inspiration for your skating choreography and performances, take a look at the Figure Skating Player app for Android phones. Watch numerous video clips of the pros, including footage of Riedell skater Rachael Flatt. With the Figure Skating Player app, you’ll be able to check out the newest competition, see what’s popular in ice skate apparel and become motivated by skating moves from the pros.
