Riedell Skaters Score Big at Skate America

Written By: Riedell | October 30, 2014

The ISU Grand Prix season is off to a terrific start after last weekend’s Skate America in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Riedell figure skaters from across the world came together and wowed fans with their talent and grace, reaching new heights and preparing for even more great events this season. Catch up on how our skaters did and where they’re off to next!

Elena Radionova: Ladies

In her breakout senior season, this Russian Riedell skater has already taken gold on two occasions! After a successful skate at the 2014 Japan Open, Elena Radionova was prepared to take on the competition at 2014 Skate America. She finished second in her short program behind fellow Russian skater Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, but launched into first place with a final score of 195.47 points. Watch for her again at the 2014 Trophee Eric Bompard in November. Congratulations Elena!

Brooklee Han: Ladies

As the only representative from Australia at 2014 Skate America, Brooklee made her country proud! The Riedell skater competed earlier this season at both the U.S. International Figure Skating Classic and the Nebelhorn Trophy after an exciting Olympic debut in Sochi! Brooklee finished in 10th place overall with 150.37 points. She’ll be back on the competitive stage this weekend at Skate Canada. Congratulations and good luck to you, Brooklee!

Brandon Frazier and Haven Denney: Pairs

This Riedell pair made quite the impression at 2014 Skate America. The U.S. figure skaters took home their second silver medal this season—and their very first medal from a senior grand prix! Additionally, Brandon and Denney had the top performance in the grand prix by any U.S. pairs team since the 2008 NHK Trophy with an overall score of 183.84. Congratulations and good luck at the 2014 Rostelecom Cup in November!

Johnny Weir: Commentator

Longtime Riedell figure skater and friend Johnny Weir has transitioned from his competitive figure skating career into the next best thing: figure skating commentary! After receiving praise for his commentary during the Sochi Winter Olympics alongside Tara Lipinksi, Weir has joined NBC Sports as an expert figure skating analyst. During 2014 Skate America, Weir and Lipinksi provided two hours of live commentary. Check out Johnny’s past decade of achievement as we anxiously wait for more!

Kurt Browning: Commentator

Kurt Browning is another longtime Riedell skater and loyal friend. The four-time Canadian Champion, four-time World Champion and world record holder can still be found on the ice. You can catch him in action at events like the upcoming Holiday Festival on Ice in December. He’s also a commentator for CBC’s coverage of major figure skating events like 2014 Skate America and Skate Canada!

We’ll keep you updated as the season moves forward, but in the meantime you can learn more about our skaters and their accomplishments at ice.riedellskates.com. Good luck to all of our Riedell skaters as they continue to compete, practice and follow along on the ice!

Happy skating!
