It has been 22 years since an American figure skater has taken the gold at the Winter Olympics. (Can you name the famous medalist?) Is Vancouver the place where this streak of silver and bronze medals for the U.S. team will finally end? We think so! With a strong male contenders for the Olympic team—including Jeremy Abbott and Johnny Weir—many are predicting that the American team will meet the challenge and return with the gold. In a recent article, Abbott explains how his training and stronger skating (he is including a difficult quad in his program!) will help elevate the U.S. team. What are your predictions for the Olympics?

Johnny is going to win gold at the olympics and at nationals because his coach has helped oksana baiul and victor petrenko win their golds at the olympics and Johnny is the best in figure skating from the U.S. Evan is a joke to the figure skating community and he doesn’t deserve to be called olympic champion. The only reason Evan won the World Championship last year is because Johnny wasn’t there and Plushenko wasn’t there, and Joubert was not feeling well. This is Johnny’s last chance and he is going to make the most of this.
In 1988, Brian Boitano won the Men’s Olympic Gold Medal, the last time an American man came in first.
It really depends on the outcome of January 2010’s US Figure Skating Championships.
I’m rooting for Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir!
