Riedell Skaters Perform Across the Globe Over the Weekend

Over the weekend, Riedell skaters at every level competed around the world. At the Japan Open, 2009 U.S. National Champion, Jeremy Abbott, finished 3rd individually, while Joannie Rochette’s strong performance lead her to a first place finish! The Japan Open consisted of teams representing North America, Europe and Japan competing against each other. Jeremy and Joannie skated for Team North America with Beatrisa Liang and Jeffery Buttle. Their strong individual performances lead the North American team to a 2nd place finish behind Team Europe.

On the other side of the world, reigning U.S. Novice Champion, Kiri Baga, gave a stunning performance at her first ISU Junior Grand Prix in Dresden, Germany. Kiri skated her way to a first place finish in her international debut!

Riedell Skaters Debut at ISU Junior Grand Prix Event

Our Riedell skaters will be among the 400 athletes from more than 35 countries competing at the 2009 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix (JGP) of Figure Skating Series in Dresden, Germany today through October 4. Competing for the ladies is Kiri Baga, who won novice gold at the 2009 AT&T U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Reigning U.S. novice champions Cassie Andrews and Nicholas Anderson take the ice in pairs. Andrews and Anderson are also the 2006 U.S. juvenile and 2007 U.S. intermediate champions. This is the first JGP event for all three skaters!

The 13th season of the Junior Grand Prix Series will be held at the Freiberger Area. The Series consists of eight international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Approximately are expected to participate in the event. The top eight point-earners in each of the categories will qualify for the Junior Grand Prix Final December 3-6 in Tokyo, Japan.

Kate Charbonneau Makes International Debut

2009 Canadian Junior Ladies National Champion and Riedell skater Kate Charbonneau delivered a strong free program in women’s singles during the ISU Junior Grand Prix figure skating circuit last weekend in Poland. She climbed seven spots to finish eighth overall in her international debut.
