Joannie’s Olympic Spirit

Monday, March 8th, 2010

When Joannie Rochette stepped onto the ice the Tuesday after her mother passed away, everyone watching the Olympics that night collectively held their breath and wished her the best. Joannie delivered a breathtaking and inspiring performance and captured hearts across the globe. She did it again on Thursday in her free skate.  We couldn’t be more proud of Joannie and her courage and grace. Considering the outpouring of support she received from her fellow Olympians and fans across the globe, they couldn’t be more proud either!

Official Congratulations to Our Riedell Olympians!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Before we officially move on from the 2010 Winter Olympics, we want to extend an official “Congratulations!” to the 5 Riedell skaters who competed beautifully in Vancouver!  Joannie, Laura, Rachael, Johnny and Jeremy represented their countries with the true Olympic spirit. We are so happy that they stepped out onto the Olympic ice to represent their amazing countries in Riedells and we are so proud of their accomplishments!

And in case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past three weeks (just kidding!☺), here are how our skaters finished at the Games:

Joannie Rochette (Canada): Bronze Medalist
Laura Lepisto (Finland): 6th
Rachael Flatt (United States): 7th

Johnny Weir (United States): 6th
Jeremy Abbott (United States): 9th

Earlier in the week we posed a question to our Facebook fans, What does the Olympic sprit mean to you? We received some really great answers and now we’ll be posting our thoughts over the next few days on each of the Riedell skaters and how they embodied the Olympic spirit! As we post them, feel free to share your thoughts on each of the skaters!

To honor her mother’s memory and her Candian countrymen, Joannie will compete in tomorrow’s short program as planned. Her courage is truly an inspiration. From all of us at Riedell, we wish you the very best with your Olympic performance. You are a champion. Please keep Joannie and her father in your thoughts and hearts.

JR_WP_94x118From the first time I laced up my Riedells, I knew they were the perfect skate for me.  My Custom HLS 1500’s suit my skating style and natural movements on the ice, so I know when I enter the rink for hours of practice or an exciting performance, my feet will be comfortable. My Riedells have been with me through every step of my skating journey. I know I can count on my skates to help me deliver a great performance and perfect new routines.

Joannie Rochette Takes Time to Give Back in Peru

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Riedell skater Joannie Rochette shares the details of a life-changing trip she took to Peru with World Vision Canada in the October issue of IFS Magazine. As their new spokeswoman, Joannie traveled to Peru for 7 days with the Canadian humanitarian organization to gain perspective on the poverty and hunger issues facing people across the globe and see first-hand how World Vision is making a difference and improving lives.

Without the benefit of ice—it does not exist in the city of Lima or Cusco, a village in the Andes Mountains—Joannie still managed to give children figure skating demonstrations that left everyone wide-eyed. To learn more about Joannie’s trip, pick up the current issue of IFS, watch a video here or check out her amazing pictures on her website.
