Rachael’s Olympic Spirit

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Hours before Rachael made her debut performance at the Winter Games, NBC commentators noted that Rachael had been working on a school paper.  While she probably would have been granted an extension on the assignment (at least we hope so!) Rachael heard how hard her peers were working and wanted to complete it on time as well. Her dedication to school is the same as her dedication to the sport she loves—completely unwavering. And her beautiful performances and 7th place finish were a great start to her growing skating career! Congratulations again, Rachael!

Official Congratulations to Our Riedell Olympians!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Before we officially move on from the 2010 Winter Olympics, we want to extend an official “Congratulations!” to the 5 Riedell skaters who competed beautifully in Vancouver!  Joannie, Laura, Rachael, Johnny and Jeremy represented their countries with the true Olympic spirit. We are so happy that they stepped out onto the Olympic ice to represent their amazing countries in Riedells and we are so proud of their accomplishments!

And in case you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past three weeks (just kidding!☺), here are how our skaters finished at the Games:

Joannie Rochette (Canada): Bronze Medalist
Laura Lepisto (Finland): 6th
Rachael Flatt (United States): 7th

Johnny Weir (United States): 6th
Jeremy Abbott (United States): 9th

Earlier in the week we posed a question to our Facebook fans, What does the Olympic sprit mean to you? We received some really great answers and now we’ll be posting our thoughts over the next few days on each of the Riedell skaters and how they embodied the Olympic spirit! As we post them, feel free to share your thoughts on each of the skaters!

RF_WP_94x118Since my first days out of rental skates, Riedell has been my skate of choice. They are comfortable, but most importantly, they are reliable. Riedell Rocks! Thanks for being there for over twelve years of skating!

Just Your Average High School Senior

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

She’s just a typical high school teenager who loves drinking lemonade, reading Dan Brown books and who has a glass of chocolate milk before bed every night. But this “average” California high school senior is anything but. Rachael Flatt is an upcoming Olympian who earned her spot on the U.S. Women’s Figure Skating team over the weekend with her stellar performance at Nationals. Even with her intense practice schedule and the mounting pressures of the world stage at the Vancouver Games, Rachael has earned straight A’s and applied to Ivy League schools across the nation where she hopes to study biomedical engineering or medicine. Rachael has been featured in many magazine and newspaper articles, including this article in People Magazine, while becoming an American favorite for the medals podium!

Rachael’s busy schedule forces her to have great time management skills to balance her school work, practice schedule and social life. How do you balance a busy schedule? Share your tips with us!

Rachael Flatt Joins Team for Tomorrow

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

With a busy schedule (see the USA Today article we posted about earlier this month), Rachael Flatt is finding time to give back to her local and global communities. Rachael was selected earlier this month as a Team for Tomorrow Athlete Ambassador, an impressive responsibility for the young skater.

Since 2008, the Team for Tomorrow Humanitarian Relief Fund has been making a positive impact on those in need through volunteerism, donations and advocacy. In 2010 the Ambassadors will focus their service in three areas: hospital visits, Habitat for Humanity projects and donations to relief funds in Africa and Afghanistan. To kick of her service, Rachael visited children at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. To learn more about the Ambassador Program click here

How do you use skating to give back to your community?  Have you or your skate club ever completed a volunteer project? Share you story.
